What I Need to Know about Gas Fires
Before any decisions or choices are made about your new gas fire; make sure you are not going to fall fowl of the serious rules which govern their installation and use.
As well as the gas safety regulations, the Building Regulations and British Standards must be strictly adhered to. There are quite a few considerations to be taken into account when deciding if your Flue will be OK for the fire you choose.
The British Flue and Chimney Manufacturers Association http://www.feta.co.uk/downloads/guide-blue1-revised-04.pdf have an excellent guide which covers the regulations and has reference to the BS (British Standards) numbers that are applicable.
Not all Corgi registered tradesmen have the necessary qualification to install gas fires.
The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1994 . http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1994/Uksi_19941886_en_6.htm are very strict on this matter and are designed to make sure that serious accidents are not caused by poorly completed installations.
