Solar Hot Water

You may have heard that photovoltaic cells don't create a lot of energy and are therefore not worth the effort. Firstly, this is self-evidently not true. Every bit of energy we generate for ourselves is one bit less that has to be generated by burning oil or coal or gas.

However, the output from solar cells isnt that great in the UK. A much better use for the suns rays is in solar hot water systems. By pumping water through a system designed to heat it using the energy from the sun, and returning it to that system enough times to turn it in to hot water, we can actually save a huge amount of energy. Heating water is one of the most inefficient uses of energy - a lot of energy has to be used to heat the water. By using solar energy we can cheaply generate water for bathing and heating without burning fossil fuels.
